My song Our Bog Is Dood is closely based on the poem of the same name by Stevie Smith.    She is one of my favorite poets.   She also wrote Not Waving But Drowning which I believe is her best-known work.  (My song and video for that one are here .)   I love what one YouTuber called Stevie´s "twisted, darkly comic style."       Now about the poem, it seems pretty obvious when you read it  that "Our Bog is dood" is code for "our God is good".  Those who profess this are children, naive followers who do not question their religious beliefs but accept them blindly.   However, even between the true believers there is conflict because when it gets down to the exact details of what their God is like "They never could agree".   Religion, in the end, is an individual experience and Smith slyly illustrates this.   She also mentions intolerance for anyone who doesn´t bow down to the children´s God.   The children have their beliefs, saying   "And if y

I am pleased to announce the release of my newest EP, The TAO of SHT 4-5-6.    Here are 3 more songs based on chapters 4,5 and 6 of the Tao Te Ching (kinda the Taoists´ Bible).    For anybody not familiar with Taoism, the word "tao" is usually translated as "way" and the Taoist writings in the Tao Te Ching are little poems trying to talk about the unspeakable truths of life, the universe and everything.   So of course things can get a bit tricky.   Taoism is more of a philosophy than a religion and there are countless translations and interpretations of the Tao Te Ching.   Here is mine.   TAO of SHT 4-5-6 by SHT Musik If you prefer you can also watch the lyric video below.

Suicide Is Painless  by SHT Music When I started playing guitar I wanted to learn to play all my favorite songs.   I almost never went to the recording as a reference.    I liked to take the chords and lyrics and make my own version of the song instead of trying to copy the original.  So growing up in the 80s MASH (American sitcom about Korean War doctors)  was on 2 or 3 times (literally) Monday through Friday.   The show´s theme song is embedded in my brain forever but I never knew the lyrics to the song.    Fast forward 20 years or so and after discovering the incredibly dark lyrics of the original song (the TV theme song was instrumental)  I decided that I would take a swing at doing a cover of the song with a video.  I found this cool Middle Eastern video for this same song which I shamelessly stole and was pleasantly surprised by how well both the song and the video turned out.  But don´t take my word for it, check it out yourself.    I have also included below several other

 Straight out of Kenosha, Wisconsin comes this cosmic rapper "Hi i´m Case, or Case  Jackal or JKQLYNIDE"  I think this guy is doing the ol´  Eminem/Slim Shady/Marshall Mathers thing with the multiple names.   But this rap is  NOT like Eminem.   These are definitely big-picture ideas.  The lyrics are all there on his Bandcamp page so you can see just exactly what he is talking about.   On the album page it states:   In the gap between the physical and the spiritual, there is a finely crafted tool that turns the lights of the divine into the thoughts and actions of mortals. Dan Bern caught my attention when I used to go to the public library and take out CD´s  to discover new music and copy stuff I knew and liked but didn´t own.    I found a couple of Dan Bern albums and I realized that he was a great songwriter.    I recommend giving his stuff, especially the older material, a good listen.   He has some gems.   However,   my favorite song by far has to be Breathe.   It says a lot of deep stuff for a pop song and reminds me a lot of Taoist philosophy.      If you want more of Mr. Bern I would then recommend, New American Language, from the album of the same name.    The things he says about love in this ring so true for me that I can´t help but laugh.       Finally, one more to get you going, I will recommend God Said No.     This song really captures well the idealism we all harbor somewhere in the back of our mind thinking "If I were in charge things would be different.    I would make things right."    It exposed our human, easil

So ever since the whole Bernie Sanders incident during the last Democratic primary I have been thinking about what happened and how well it fits with the song The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead by XTC.     So I decided to record a cover of the song and practice my feeble animation skills by making a little video to go along with it explaining what many say happened in the Clinton vs.  Sanders race.     If you aren´t familiar with the original song I recommend you check it out.   The video is pretty cool as well and explains the original intent of the song based on the fall of JFK.   So, a song about JFK by XTC and covered by SHT.    Go figure. DANIEL JOHNSTON RIP  I was sad to read that Daniel Johnston is no longer with us.    Here are two of my favorite songs by the late, great, crazy artist. Life In Vain is from Johnston´s studio album fun.     It makes me think about my life and what the hell I´m doing with it. Daniel sang his wonderful song Speeding Motorcycle with the band that covered it, Yo La Tengo, live on the radio.    This is my favorite version of the song because it is simple and also shows Daniel´s great what-the-hell, what-you-see-is-what-you-get attitude which so many people loved so much.
